About the Artist
In her second show of drawings in two years, long-time abstract painter, Jessica Fromm, continues her expressionist depiction of the human figure. Fromm's imagery ranges between representation, near abstraction and the totally abstract. The tension between these visual levelsserves as an animating engine of form.Using a variety of media, her gestures form figures which explode with a visceral, destructive energy. Bodies caught in arrested motion inhabit space before careening into abstraction. The images are derived of contradictions: animated stillness, recognizable vs. the unknowable, energy yielding to chaos, all this within inventive structure.
